Welcome to HALO! Please Read First! Update: 10/5/09

Postby lordtygr » Sat Jan 31, 2009 4:35 pm

Hello!

Welcome to our site! Please Introduce yourself in this section and we hope to get to meet you soon! We will Have 1 Regular Meet per month. The third Friday of the month. Unless otherwise noted, these meets will be at 8pm at Planet Zero on Westheimer: Details Here. We will also have other "Special Events" scheduled as well, for example we are planning a "Loop 610 Parade", a BBQ/work day to work on our rides, etc. so keep an eye out for those.

Purpose:
The purpose of this site is primarily to coordinate and announce meet-ups to get to know our fellow local Houston Area Lancer Owners (hence the name HALO). It's not that we don't enjoy talking about our cars (and please feel free to do so) but there are already several other sites available out there to get/discuss information about our wonderful cars. We are the first OFFICIAL local chapter of lancertuners.com

Who Can Join Us:
We welcome all Lancer owners (Earlier Generations, Current Generations, ES, DE, OZ, GTS, RalliArt, or EVO), Younger Owners, Older Owners, Male, Female, those interested in them, and friends of owners. We are not a "Team" and can only Loosely be considered a "Club." We are not all about racing, though some of do it. We are not all about car shows, though some of us attend/participate. There is no cost to join our group. Our group relies heavily on participation both online and off. Starting today (5/26/09) there will be a 60-day (2 months) cut off period. You will need to log-in and make at least 1 post (either by making your own thread, or replying to an existing thread) within a 60-day period. All accounts that have not been used in over 60-days will be deleted. Today starts the count down, you have 60 days from today to make a post. It's not that hard, there is a "Random Thoughts" thread in the "Off-Topic Forum" that you can post anything you like: Random Thoughts

Tips for Joining/Using the Site:
If you use an email address that ends with: @gmail.com you will not be able to join the site. There have been too many spammers trying to join the site. Therefore, I have banned that email from joining. My suggestion is to use another address or create a new one on another service, there are plenty of other free email sites available.

I've been told that some of you using MSN, YAHOO, etc. when you register are having your activation emails sent to your spam folder. There's not much I can do about that. Those spam filters are on your email servers. All you can do is make sure to check your spam/junk folders if your expecting an email from us. Also, you can go ahead and add halo(at)houstonlancers(dot)com to your address book. That should automatically clear emails from us to your normal Inbox.

Our site Features Live Chat. You can access it from the Portal Page on the left side in the box labled "Features" or by clicking here: Live Chat
We also feature our own Photo Gallery that you can post any pics that you like as long as it deals with the site in some way. It is also accessible from the Portal Page in the "Features" box, or by clicking here: Photo Gallery

Code of Conduct:
Online (and at meets):
First off, please realize that this site is set up for *ALL* Lancer Owners to have a good time and mainly discuss their cars and plan meets. I know everyone has their opinion on MANY different Issues and although we do have an off-topic section where almost anything goes, and we are fairly lax about staying on-topic, please keep in mind your fellow members that are reading what you are saying. Two areas of discussion in particular (that i WILL NOT say that can not be talked about) that i would recommend refraining from is Religion and Politics. We are a community brought together by our cars. We all come from different walks of life and therefore all view things differently. Also remember Different people have different levels of being offended. On that same note, please don't be easily offended around here. Also Respect other peoples opinions whether you agree with it or not. Especially if your outnumbered! lol.

If you can't TAKE it, don't DISH it! If someone is a smart-ass to you, you can:
    -grin and bear it :)
-you can talk* to them about it and/or PM them, like a grown-up (*talking takes place with NO OTHER BODY PART except your MOUTH! I.E. no fighting!)
-you can think up a witty comeback!
-if you feel you have no other recourse, PM me and/or another ADMIN. we will talk to the person that has offended you and if warranted, we will issue a warning.

Try to keep your criticism's constructive. If someone wants to install an old RCA 8-track player in their car, that's their prerogative, it's their car. Instead of saying something like: "OMGWTF! you're an IDIOT!" try saying "I really wouldn't recommend that, but should you want to go ahead with it, try looking for some harnesses on eBay or crutchfield.com"

Offline (aka at Meets)
Part of what needs to be understood here is that most of our meet-ups, are going to be standing around parking lots with our cars.

Alcohol; This one is a killer... literally, especially considering the nature of our group. Even I like a beer or a margarita from time to time. Sometimes it's acceptable, a lot of times it isn't. Parking lot meets are not the best place for passing out the cold ones, so please, DON'T DO IT. Now, if we are inside at a restaurant, bar, or at someone's home, help yourself. Just use your best judgment. I have no problems calling a Taxi or giving someone a ride. Also remember, some members are under 21. So be choosy who you share your brew with. We (HALO) WILL NOT be held responsible for the decisions you make.

We depend on the "charity" of business owners and the parking lots they inevitably provide (whether they realize it or not, lol). So please, don't trash these places out. If you can't find a trash can near by, keep it in your car until you can throw it away. Please no racing near or around the meet sites. Don't go "blasting" through the lots, keep a slow pace and keep a sharp eye out for pedestrians. No Burn-outs, including when your leaving the event, pulling out of the parking lot. No more engine revving please. I know you want to show off your new exhaust or intake, or hear that blow-off valve but, please save that for another time.

This is the part that i really hate... I had this as an unwritten policy i guess, but i think now it needs to be written. I am instituting a "3 strike" policy. if you receive 3 warnings (or less depending on the seriousness of the offense) you may be asked to leave HALO. Please.... dont make me do that. i hate that kind of stuff! I feel like crap enough just feeling like i need to write it.

Thanks :D

I'm a beer drinker, thats for sure. I agree that our meets should be alcohol free, unless it's a "work" day over at someones place (aka more private). I also agree that if we are inside (bar/restraunt/whatever) then fine. But I don't think it's something would should "promote" at any point.

I agree on that one. I just don't hope the policy doesn't get to strict so that when we do go to meets that i'm not on lockdown from drinking a beer at resteraunt or something.

I agree as well. We need to be adults about the meets but we can still be kids at the same time. That means no illegal acts should go down at all. Yes i do agree if want to party (I LOVE TO PARTY) we should definitely be at someones crib or at actual bar or etc...

I have a condo that would work surprising well for a small meet.
There is a parking garage and the roof is always empty. When we're done outside, we can go inside and drink. :)
This is my signature. I currently have none. I hope you have enjoyed my non-signature.

Yeah, I didn't think about that. The second-to-top floor is also usually pretty empty. Those are spots reserved for the residents, but I don't think anyone is assigned to most of them.

Plus, now that I think about it, a group photo at the top of a carpark during a thunderstorm would be badass.
